Women’s Bowling Wins 2026 GLVC Title, First in Program History

Kassidy Miller, Ashley Soto, and Danielle Walbaum claim spots on the GLVC Championship All-Tournament Team

BELLEVILLE, Ill.- The Jets defeated top-seeded Maryville to claim the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Bowling Championship Title. The Jets secured their first GLVC Championship in program history, and knock off the two-time defending champions. This title is Newman's first title since Cross Country claimed the 2014 Heartland Conference Championship. 

The top seeded Maryville defeated No. 5 seed Oklahoma Christian on Sunday morning to claim their spot in the title game against the Jets. 

No. 1 MARYVILLE (831, 1008, 4) def. No. 5 OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (869, 869, 0), 2-1
- Oklahoma Christian posted a solid 869 mark in Traditional play, led by Carlen Gattenby's 211 game.
- Sophia Matteson of Maryville recorded a team-high 199 individual game.
- Maryville turned it on in the Baker portion, starting the section with games of 220, 250, and 213 to jump out to a 186-pin advantage after three games.
    - The Saints finished 139 pins ahead of the Eagles to tie the match at one.
- The best-of-seven Baker series saw Maryville continue to dominate, winning four-straight games with a 194.5 average.

- Newman saw consistent scores from the entire five-person squad in the Traditional leg, with three bowlers – Danielle Walbaum, Kassidy Miller, and Claire Jacobson – reaching the 190-plus mark.- GLVC Player of the Year Elizabeth Teuber highlighted the Saints' Traditional segment with a 232.
- Maryville responded by averaging 194.4 in the Baker portion to beat out Newman by 15 pins and tie up the match.
- Newman dominated the best-of-seven Baker series with a 203.8 average and four consecutive wins to claim the title.
 
With Sunday's victory, the No. 14-ranked Jets earned the GLVC's automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Women's Collegiate Bowling Championship, which is scheduled to begin at four pre-determined regional sites (Arlington, Texas; Lansing, Mich.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Rochester, N.Y.) on April 2-4, with the National Championship slated for April 10-11 at Yorktown Lanes in Parma Heights, Ohio. The NCAA will unveil the 19 teams selected for the NCAA Tournament online at NCAA.com at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 25. The Jets will be making their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
