WICHITA, Kan. — After dropping a close game one 4-2, the Newman baseball team came back to get the game two victory 6-4 over Oklahoma Christian. The Jets get the game two victory coming off the heels of the bullpen helping seal the victory.
Game 1
Going into the top of the fifth inning the Jets were looking at a one-run deficit, Turner Lace was able to get things started with a hit by pitch and a stolen base and advancing on a wild pitch. Paul Rupnik would later come up and get a single to left field scoring Lace and tying the game at two.
As the game was winding down both teams still locked in a battle when the Eagles would break the game's tie with a double down the right field line and a single to center field scoring two Eagle runners and taking game one 4-2.
Game 2
In game two, the Jets got production early from their lineup first in the third Mason Nagle worked a walk, Koby Millner reached on an error and a ground out by Chris Opolka gave the Jets the early lead. Later in the third Rupnik came up big with a single to center field scoring Millner and Lace for the 3-1 lead. In the fourth, the Jets added another run when an error by the shortstop helped the Jets by scoring Daniel Blake.
The Eagles weren't going away and in the bottom of the sixth, they would tie the game up on a single to right field scoring two Eagle runners the Jets were now looking at a 4-4 tie. The Jets would get it back plus one in the later stage of the game as another fielding error by the shortstop help the Jets again as Jake Hanson reached scoring Rupnik. Newman would have a big eighth getting the insurance run they were looking for when Koby Millner would ground out to second advancing Nagle and Lace, while scoring Matt Reeves for the 6-4 lead, and with the help of the bullpen the Jets took the game two victory.
Ryan Boaz went five strong innings only giving up three hits, two runs while striking out four for his game victory.
The Jets will conclude the series Saturday afternoon with the first pitch of the rubber match coming at 1 PM.
