LUBBOCK, Texas. – The Newman baseball team suffered their sixth consecutive loss of the season Saturday afternoon (Mar. 30) in the series finale to No. 11 ranked Lubbock Christian, 10-0. The Jets fall to 12-15 on the season and drop to 1-5 in Heartland Conference action, while the Chaps improve to 22-8 on the season and move to 5-0 in conference play.
After a perfectly played first inning from both squads, things quickly turned on the Jets as the Chaparrals broke the game open with a six run second-inning. In the top of the fourth, senior Paul Rupnik gave the Jets their first baserunner of the game and only scoring chance with a 2-out double.
The Chaparrals stretched their lead out to 10-0 in the sixth after plating home two runs in the fourth and six innings, enforcing the run-rule in the seventh.
Andrew Synder (2-5) went 1.2-innings in his start allowing six runs on seven hits, walking a pair and recording a strikeout.
Jacob Stramel worked 4.1-innings in relief allowing four runs (1-earned) on five hits while fanning three Chaparral batters.
Newman will look to put an end to a season long six game skid Tuesday evening (Apr. 2) as they go for a season sweep against the Gorillas of Pittsburg State. First-pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from McCarthy Field in Wichita, Kan.
