Jets Plate 10 As They Get The Series Win Over The Hillcats

WICHITA, Kan. — After splitting day one with Rogers State, the Newman baseball team came out Saturday and got the series win against the Hillcats behind a great day at the plate for the team.

The Jets were able to do a big portion of their damage in the middle innings, but in the early innings the team was able to cut into the Hillcats lead. Daniel Blake singled up the middle bringing up Mason Nagle who was able to work a walk along with Jon Coufal who would later bring up shortstop Turner Lace who tripled to right field giving the Jets a 3-2 lead.

In the third, the Jets were still holding on to their lead when to lead off the bottom of the inning Jake Hanson was able to get a pitched he liked for a home run to right field and Newman now had a 4-2 lead. Going into the bottom of the fourth the Jets were looking for some insurance and they were able to get it with the help of a ground out by Koby Milliner and a wild pitch by the Hillcats for the four-run lead.

In the seventh inning the Jets were still looking for more offense and they were able to get it with the help of a Paul Rupnik double, Hanson single, Mitchell Austin single, and an error by the Hillcats second baseman the Newman lead was now 10-2 and with the help of the bullpen the Jets got the series win 2-1 over the Hillcats.

Three Jets were able to have good multi-hit games in the series finale (Hanson, Austin, and Lace).

Zach Erdman gave the Jets a Solid six innings only giving up five hits and two runs, while Ryan Boaz help the Jets keep the lead with three solid inning of his own.

The Jets travel to Emporia, Kansas to take on Emporia State Tuesday Mar. 12 with the first pitch coming at 2 p.m.
