WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman baseball team travel to Emporia, Kansas to take on Emporia State as they were looking to bounce back from their series loss this past weekend, the Jets got support from everyone in their lineup as they would take the nonconference matchup over the Hornets.
The Jets were able to take the lead early over the Hornets and did not give it back as they got big production from the top of their lineup as the first four hitters went a combined 11-17 with seven RBIs as they took an early 8-1 lead. The Newman bullpen was able to hold the Hornets to six runs as the Jets were able to continue their hot scoring and take a big 13-6 lead late.
Late in the game the Jets were able to a big three-run home run from Paul Rupnik who gave the Jets a big boost at the top of the lineup as the Jets were moving along in the game the bullpen continued their dominance as they kept the Hornets scoreless in the final three innings to take the nonconference matchup 13-6.
Mitchell Austin and Paul Rupnik gave the Jets a lot of run production as they both had three RBIs, while Austin had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 and Rupnik went 3-for-6 to lift the Jets in the Wednesday night victory.
The Jets are back at McCarthy Field as they host Oklahoma Christian Friday and Saturday (Apr. 12&13) with the first pitches coming at 2 PM and 1 PM
