WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman baseball team returned to the field Saturday as they tried to salvage the series against Oklahoma Christian. The Jets were able to cut the Eagle lead to five early in the game, but the Eagles were able to come away with the series win in seven innings.
The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead over the Jets in the first two innings, but the Jets were able to come back and get a run in the bottom of the second as Conner Langrell singled through the right side, bringing up Will Jordan who singled to right field and after a Max Bajza fielder's choice the Eagle lead was 2-1. In the third inning, after the Eagles got some insurance run the Jets began a little comeback of their own. Paul Rupnik came up with a clutch double down the right field line after two singles by Tyler Push and Koby Millner, Oklahoma Christian now had a 9-4 lead.
Later in the game after a pitching change for the Jets the Eagles were able to muster some more insurance runs and they took a big lead late. The Jets weren't going away, after being able to put together some hits late, Newman would come up just short as they fell to the Eagles in the series finale in seven innings.
The Jets were able to get another multi hit game from their line as Tyler push and Koby Millner had two hits each.
The Jets travel to Liberty, MO Tuesday (Apr. 16) for their final nonconference road game as they take on William Jewell with first pitch coming at 3 PM.
