Late Mistakes Hurt Jets As They Lose A Close Game To The Rangers

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman baseball team suffered a tough game in the late innings to nonconference opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State 2-1 Tuesday night. The Jets were looking to stay hot against nonconference opponents in the later portion of the schedule.

In the first four innings, the game was a pitching duel as both teams couldn't get anything going offensively as they were locked in 0-0 game until the fifth. The Jets were able to get on the board as Paul Rupnik got things started with a double to left field, bringing up Daniel Blake who moved him over on a sacrifice bunt. Will Jordan came up later in the inning and single up the middle scoring Rupnik giving the Jets a 1-0 lead.

As the game began to wind down and the later innings came the Jets were still holding on to the 1-0 lead as the Rangers were coming up to hit. The Rangers were able to get runners on second and third late, a bunt single and miscue by the Jets gave the Rangers the lead late and the team would go on to win the close game 2-1 over the Jets.

Will Jordan went 1-for-3 on the day as he had the hit and RBI that gave the Jets the lead in Tuesday's contest.

The Jets Stay home as they host St. Edward's Friday and Saturday (Apr. 26 & 27) with first pitch coming at 2 PM and 1 PM.
