Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jets drop tough matchup with Riverhawks 3-2

Wichita, Kan. - Newman came into this game having not lost a game all season, as a matter of fact, they hadn't given up a goal all season. The Riverhawks must have known that coming into tonight's matchup, as they score three goals and hand the Jets their first loss. NSU came out firing early, scoring in just the third minute. Both teams would be very aggressive all night long.

Key Sequence

Late in the second half of a 2-2 game, Paulina Chavez (NSU) was able to find the back of the net on a ball from Sarah Rector. This would prove to be what the Riverhawks needed to secure the game, providing the Jets with their first loss of the season.

Scoring Plays

3' - Hannah Stettler

30' - Selina Vidhammer, Kennedy Weaver

55' - Sommer Franks, Hannah Stettler

60' - Kennedy Weaver, Andrea Zwinkels

73' - Paulina Chavez, Sarah Rector

How It Happened

The Riverhawks got the scoring started early on a third minute goal from a miscue by the Jets goalie as a ball slipped through her hands and right to Hannah Stettler. The Jets were able to even the match when Kennedy Weaver put a ball in the box from a corner that found the head of Selina Vidhammer, who put it away. In the second half a trend would start. The Riverhawks scored the first goal, followed by the Jets tying it back up when Kennedy Weaver fired a lazer into the top left corner of the goal on a ball from Andrea Zwinkles. Following the trend, the Riverhawks would score next, giving them the final lead of the night and the win.

What's Next

The Jets will be back in action this Sunday as they start MIAA Conference play by hosting the Hillcats of Rogers State. The game will start at 2:00 P.M. at Wilkins Field.
