HAYS, Kan. - Newman came into this matchup trying to right the ship and turn their season around. The Jets, looking for their first conference win against the Tigers of Fort Hays State (4-7), would need their young players to step up and play well.
In the first set, the two teams would play neck and neck until the Tigers went on a 18-8 run to take the set 25-14.
The second set would look to be the same for the Jets. After being tied 9-9, the Tigers would go on a 16-5 run to close out the set, scoring seven straight at one point. Fort Hays would take the set by the same score as the first.
In the third set, the Jets would do everything they could to force a fourth set. Newman was finally able to string multiple points together in this set. However, they wouldn't be able to keep the Tigers from stringing together a 6-0 run to take an advantage. Even falling behind by seven, the Jets wouldn't give up. They were able to score twice on set point to put a scare into the Tigers before Fort Hays State was able to secure the win, finishing off the Jets in the third set 25-19.
