Wichita, Kan. – The Newman Jets hosted the Rogers State Hillcats looking to snap a two game losing streak. The Hillcats lead from the opening tip to the final buzzer as they would take down the Jets 82-59.
In the first half, Rogers State (13-4, 5-3) started the game on an 12-4 run to jump out to an early lead. A free throw by
Omar Boone would stop the run with 15:44 left. The Jets would cut the deficit to 5 with 13:36 left on a jumper by
Marshawn Blackmon. Rogers State would take control as they would outscore the Jets 25-16 for the remainder of the half to take a 39-25 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Hillcats would keep the momentum as they would slowly build their lead to 30 with 2:49 left in regulation. Newman was only outscored by 9 points in the second half compared to the 14 in the first half.
Newman (7-10, 1-7) shot 18-of-47 from the floor for 38.3 percent, 6-of-19 from three for 31.6 percent and 17-of-27 from the free throw line for 63 percent. While Rogers State shot 26-of-44 for 59.1 percent, and 7-of-18 from 3 for 38.9 percent. Both teams were even on the boards with 29 apiece, but Newman had 10 offensive rebounds compared to Rogers State's 4.
Newman was led in scoring by
Juwan Davenport with 12 points,
Marshawn Blackmon added 10 in the Jets loss.
