Jets Set to Host XC Team Championships

WICHITA, Kan. - The Jets are set to host the 2020 XC Team Championships that will come in place of the MIAA Championships on Friday, October 30 at 4:00 (women) and 4:40 (men). Every MIAA member school that fields a cross county team will be in attendance for the race held at Cessna Activities Center. With all of the precipitation this week in Wichita, the course will pose some challenges to the runners as they not only have to battle each other, but the wet course conditions as well.

The Newman women will look to keep up their trend of top 10 finishes this year as they have finished their three races this year in fifth, second and sixth. The Lady Jets have been led in every race by senior runner Lauren Nutting, who has finished second, fifth and eighth in her three races. Junior Marcela Martinez will look to put together her fourth top 25 finish this year to help the Jets try to secure a spot in the Lubbock Christian National Invite.

The Newman men look to keep building upon the three stellar performances they have had so far this season as they have finished top three in all three of their competitions this year. Senior Alejandro Ultreras has continued dominating the competition as he has in years past, as he has finished with two fifth place finishes and a fourth place finish in three tough races this season. Kevin Chemalmal has been right behind Ultreras all season long as he's finished top 10 in all three races this year. The Jets will look to these two runners to lead them to their bid to the Lubbock Christian National Invite.

This will be the first competition for a lot of the schools in the MIAA this year as Central Missouri, Emporia State, Missouri Southern State, Northwest Missouri State, Washburn, Lincoln, Central Oklahoma, Fort Hays State and Pittsburg State will all be competing in their first race of the season. Missouri Western and Kearney will be competing for their second time this year, while Rogers State will be running in their third race.

The race will be held at Cessna Activities Center which is located at 2744 S George Washington Blvd., Wichita, KS 67210. Fans WILL be allowed at the races, with a requirement of wearing a mask and socially distancing from the runners and each other.
