Wichita, Kan. - The Newman Jets hosted the Missouri Western Griffons on Saturday afternoon inside Fugate Gymnasium. The Griffons controlled the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer as they would knock off the Jets 81-57.
In the first half, Newman would find themselves in an early hole trailing 9-0 before a
Tyjil Hereford jumper would end the scoring drought. Newman struggled shooting in the first half going 8-31 from the field. Missouri Western would take advantage of the Jets struggles outscoring Newman 36-23 in the first half. In the second half, Missouri Western kept taking it to Newman as they would outscore Newman 45-34 in the second half on their way to an 81-57 win over the Jets.
Newman (8-14, 2-11) shot 18-of-59 from the floor for 30.5 percent, 3-of-6 from three for 50 percent and 18-of-27 from the free throw line for 66.7 percent. While Missouri Western shot 31-of-65 for 47.7 percent, and 10-of-29 from 3 for 34.5 percent. The Jets out-rebounded the Griffons by 2, 42-40.
Newman was led in scoring by
Marshawn Blackmon with 14 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double in the Jets loss.
Newman will return to action Thursday, Feb. 6
th as they travel to Hays, Kan. to take on Fort Hays State with tip-off slated for 7:30 P.M.
