KEARNEY, NE - Newman took on Nebraska-Kearney Friday night in Kearney, Nebraska. The Jets are now 0-6-1, 0-2 MIAA, after today's 2-1 loss, while the Lopers advance to 2-7, 1-1 MIAA.
HALF 1
The first half was a very elementary and routine half of soccer both ways. The Jets generated the only shot on goal of the half when Jalyn McClean tested the UNK goalkeeper at 35:43.
HALF 2
The action of Friday evening's match truly began after the 15 minute halftime intermission. UNK's Cammie Davis opened up the scoring in the match with a goal that beat Newman keeper, Jackie Lari, at 53:17.
Newman pushed as hard as they possibly could to get an equalizing goal to extend the game. Newman had 0 shots on the net until the 88th minute when Reina Cline kicked a bouncing ball through traffic.
Newman's lone shot on goal in the second half made it home, giving Cline her first goal this season.
1st OT
Newman continued their offensive pressure into the first overtime getting 4 shots on net throughout the 10 minute period. The Jets could not connect, but did not allow an attempt to test Lari in the entire period.
The game remained tied at 1 heading into the second overtime.
2nd OT
The Lopers struck gold a minute and a half into the 2nd overtime period giving them a 2-1 victory. The UNK header finished off the Jets who were sent home with a 2-1 loss despite their valiant effort.
The Jets are back in action Sunday when they travel to Hays, Kansas to take on the Fort Hays State Tigers. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. Stay tuned to schedule updates and more at newmanjets.com
