HAYS, KS - Newman squared off against conference foe Fort Hays State on Sunday afternoon. The Jets were in search of their first victory, but were unable to find it. The Tigers defeated Newman by a score of 2-0 dropping the Jets to 0-7-1, 0-3 MIAA. FHSU tallied their first conference victory advancing to 4-3-3, 1-2 MIAA, on the season.
The Jets struggled to convert on scoring chances. Although limited, the Jets possessed the ball in their attacking end numerous times. FHSU scored a goal in each half as the Tigers had 7 total shots on goal. Newman had shots on goal by Ashley Talley, Makenzie Shay and Evelyn Nguyen.
Goalkeeper Jackie Lari recorded 5 stops on the day. The Jets defense could not keep the Tigers away from Newman's defensive end as FHSU fired 17 total shots.
Coach Jay Holmes needs his team to execute better in both penalty areas of the field. Holmes is eager to get back home after a lengthy roadtrip. The Jets will get back to work with training this week.
