TAHLEQUAH, OK - Newman took on Northeastern State in a conference battle, their 5th in just 10 days. The Jets are 0-9-1, 0-4-1 GAC/MIAA, on the year after Saturday's 1-0 loss, while the Riverhawks advanced to 6-6, 4-2 GAC/MIAA.
The Jets and Riverhawks battled a fairly contested battle through full time. Both teams saw similar chances offensively. Newman and NSU got 7 shots off in the first half, with Newman getting four of theirs at the NSU goalkeeper. Of the 7 shots NSU got, zero tested Newman goalkeeper Laurin Aumueller.
At halftime the game remained as it started, tied 0-0. Both teams searched for their breakthrough in half number 2 during the 15 minute break.
45 seconds into the 2nd half NSU got their first shots on net and converted the eventual game winning goal. Despite resilient pushes, the Riverhawks kept their net clean taking the match 1-0.
Aumueller stopped 5 of the 6 shots he faced, a great bounce back performance for the Austrian goalkeeper. Offensively, Carlos Bellosta Manchon put both of his attempted shots on net which led the Jets.
Up next for the Jets is a pair of matches with Fort Hays State. Thursday night is home at 7 PM and on Saturday afternoon the two teams will compete in Hays with a 3 PM kickoff. Stay tuned to schedule updates on newmanjets.com.
