WICHITA, KS - Newman hosted in state conference foe Fort Hays State. The two squared off on Wilkins Field to the tune of a seven goal affair. FHSU took the win Thursday night 4-3.
The Jets fell to 0-10-1, 0-5-1 GAC/MIAA on the year, while the Tigers are now 7-4-1, 4-2 GAC/MIAA. The two teams were in their first of two back to back matches in a home and away set.
Newman was on the board early when Fort Hays scored an own goal 3:41 in the game. Leading 1-0, the Jets looked to grow their lead before three unanswered gave the Tigers the lead 3-1.
Newman was looking to regain some control of the match and some stellar work in the net by
Juan Carlos Cordova kept the team in the game. Cordova finished with 9 saves on the evening.
Felix Tellez Ramirez ripped through the Tiger defense after a long volley came from Cordova. Ramirez did the rest of the work sending the goalie for a spill with a finesse touch. 4 minutes later the Jets earned a free kick that
Luke Mills laced into the back of the net evening the game at 3 with 27 minutes remaining.
The Tigers score dthe eventual game winner in the 70th minute giving them the victory.
Newman and FHSU play again Saturday in Hays with kickoff set for 3 PM.
