WICHITA, KS - Newman hosted Missouri Western Saturday afternoon. The Jets were playing the second game of a back to back at home after a 4 set loss to #10 Northwest Missouri State. The Jets brought all the energy for 5 sets.
Newman took sets 4 and 5 after trailing 2-1 at the conclusion of set 3. This result was a much needed one as Newman fell to NW after winning the first set only Friday night.
Jose Lugo's team now sits at 7-8, 3-6 MIAA after Saturday's win. The Griffons fall to 3-5 in MIAA play and 11-6 overall.
The Jets are looking to put a streak together as they get two matches, one with UCO and the other against UCM this week. Newman is in good hands as
Salome Romp is coming off a 19 kill performance. Romp was assisted offensively by
Jenna DeVore and
McKinzie Weaver. The two combined for 35 assists on the day.
Riley Daugherty had 10 kills with 18 digs, continuing her excellent Freshman campaign.
Natalie Morales and
Paiton Haga were also in double digits on the back line, picking up all the Griffons had to offer.
Up next, Newman heads to UCO for a Tuesday night match in Edmond. The match is set to tip off at 6 PM.
