Jets lose thrilling match against Ouachita Baptist

WICHITA, KS - Newman took on Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon at Wilkins Field.  The Jets fall to 0-6-1, 0-1-1 GAC, after today's 4-3 loss, while the Tigers collect their first conference win on the year advancing to 1-6-1, 1-3 GAC.

HALF 1
For the majority of the first half the Jets played sound soccer.  The Jets only yielded one foul to OBU's 10.  Newman was working their game plan as they settled into Saturday's match.  Newman got two shots on net while Newman goalkeeper Juan Carlos Cordova faced 4 shots in the first half.

Joao Moreira netted a goal at 12:44 to give the Jets a 1-0 lead early on.  Moreira finally connected after an active past 2 games on the shot chart.

Midway through the 1st 45 minutes the Tigers flipped a switch and captured the lead with two goal at 20:22 and 23:20.  With the Jets trailing, frustration ensued for the Jets as some undisciplined play and offensive skill by OBU's Booby Boone gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.  It was Bobby Boone's first goal of the match and Ebon Jordan's second assist.  Jordan also scored a goal earlier in the half as well.

HALF 2

Trailing 3-1, the Jets did not panic and did not flinch.  Cliff Brown's team made their adjustments and got opportunities early and often through out the second half.  Newman got 5 shots on net in the second half.

At 64:40, Carlos Bellosta Manchon worked his skill and beat the Tiger goalkeeper.  This marked his first goal of the season, but he would not be left off the scoring sheet in this match.  Just over 2 minutes later Guilherme Mendes scored his first of the season and it was Bellosta picking up an assist as well as Mendes's brother, Duarte Mendes.

The game played at as it began, with the score tied until a foul in the goalie box led to a penalty kick for the Tigers at 87:25.  Ouachita Baptist's Bobby Boone netted his second of the game.

The final goal of the match came off of a foul in a physical and chippy match.  There were 8 cautions in total and two ejections on the OBU side.  The Jets were unable to amount the win, but showed the ultimate resolve of battling back after being down.

The Jets are back in action Monday, October 4th, as they take on the Rogers State Hillcats.  Kickoff is slated for 6:30 PM in Claremore, Oklahoma.  Stay tuned to schedule updates and more at newmanjets.com
