Jets take care of business in Emporia with a team effort

EMPORIA, KS - The Jets began October with a 3-0 loss at #1 Washburn.  This extended their losing streak to 5.  The next day, Saturday, Newman responded.  Facing a weak Emporia State, now 2-11, 0-6 MIAA, Jose Lugo's team rolled to a 3-0 sweep of the Hornets.

The Jets won Friday by scores of 29-27, 25-19 and 25-13.  The Jets sit at 6-7 and 2-5 in the MIAA.  A quality bounce back win to empower the Jets as they return home next week.
The Jets spent Saturday evening playing textbook defense and capitalizing off of Hornet mistakes.  The Jets truly settled in during set 3 where the Newman offense swung  .366 while ESU hit -0.051.

Newman proved their potential recording 11 more kills than the Hornets.  The story of the game lied within the block party the Jets hosted on the tape opposite Hornet hitters.  Newman recorded 10 blocks to ESU's 2.  Jada Key and Abby Borough were in on 8 and 6 of the 10 Jet blocks respectively.  Imani Jones, Riley Daugherty and Kaylie Kovach each picked up 2 Block Assists as well.

Offensively, Salome Romp paced Newman with 11 kills followed by Abby Borough and Riley Daugherty with 9 each.  Borough hit .364, leading all Jets with multiple attacks on the night.

The Jets played defensively sound volleyball only allowing 2 aces and digging 73 Hornet attacks.  Paiton Haga led the way with 18 digs.  She was trailed closely ny Rebecca Hageman, Riley Daugherty and Natalie Morales who tallied 16, 15 , and 13.  Hageman also added 16 assists.

Up next, the Jets take on Northwest Missouri State in Fugate Gymnasium on Friday, October 8th.  the next day, Newman squares off against Missouri Western.  Both are MIAA contests slated for 6 PM and 3 PM first serves.  For more information visit newmanjets.com.
