WICHITA, KS - Newman hosted #10 Northwest Missouri State Friday night in Fugate Gymnasium. The atmosphere was electric to begin the match. The Jets fed off that energy winning the first set 25-20 before dropping three tightly contested sets giving the Bearcats a 3 sets to 1 victory.
Newman drops to 6-8, 2-6 MIAA and NWMSU advances to 12-2, 5-1 MIAA. This game for the Jets proves their resolve and never say die attitude. Their competitiveness is a point of pride for Coach
Jose Lugo. The addition of
Riley Daugherty has boosted the Jets. Daugherty led Newman by swinging .310 with 16 kills. The Freshman also added 10 digs for good measure.
Newman's defense was stout in sets one and three. On the tape, it was
Imani Jones and
Jada Key providing the shut down defense with 3 and 2 solo blocks each. The Jets had 12 blocks in total with an impressive 6 in set 1. Jones and Key assisted on three additional blocks each and
Abby Borough assisted on 4 herself.
Newman could not keep the Bearcats down all night. NWMSU hit .226 on the night thanks to a staggering .650 in set 4, a set they won 25-17. The Jets stuck it to their opponent as long as they could.
The match was somewhat a welcoming event as

Libero
Paiton Haga led all Jets with 21 digs on the night. That averages out to 5.25 digs per set, which is becoming the standard for Haga.
