WICHITA, Kan. - Newman welcomed GAC/MIAA opponent Rogers State to Wilkins Field Saturday afternoon. The Jets were shutout in the second half and suffered a 2-1 defeat.
The Jets tumble to 0-12-1, 0-7-1 GAC/MIAA with Saturday's result. The 2-1 result was never certain throughout the entirety of the match.
Newman fell behind just under 7 minutes into the game. The Jets responded shortly after when
Joao Moreira scored his second goal of the season off of touches by
Asa Moncivais and
Cole Thompson. The match was even through the remainder of the opening half.
After halftime, it was apparent that the Hillcats made some attacking adjustments. 1:09 into the second half, the Hillcats lined up for a free kick just outside of Newman's box. Luke Morgan blasted the ball past Newman goalkeeper
Laurin Aumueller. Aumueller stopped 4 of 6 shots on goal.
The issue for the Jets was that they had just two shots on net and both were in the first half. In the second half, the Jets earned two corners including one with just seconds remaining, but the Hillcats defense thwarted the Jets opportunity.
Up next the Jets have two road dates with Harding and Ouachita Baptist. Stay tuned to schedule updates and more at newmanjets.com.
