Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jets battle the Bronchos to earn a 0-0 draw

EDMOND, Okla. - Newman took on the UCO Bronchos for the second time this season but first in MIAA play.  The Jets battled to their second draw on the season as they earned a 0-0 result.

The Jets record sits at 1-12-2 after tonight's result.  With just one game remaining this season, Newman has earned its 2 draws against the Bronchos.  Back on September 19th, the Jets welcomed the UCO Bronchos to Wilkins Field where the two teams battled out to a 2-2 result.

As for tonight's match up, Newman kept up its stingy defensive play.  Newman goalkeeper Jackie Lari was sensational with 9 saves on the evening including a staggering 7 in half number two.  Lari's defensive teammates were keeping pace and keeping the Bronchos' attackers in front of them as best as possible.  Madison Shay, Maria Stephens and Jordan Ashworth all recorded 110 minutes along with Lari.  Quite an effort to keep the Bronchos at bay.

Offensively, Newman was unable to generate many chances.  The most promising look of the night was when Jalyn McClean broke through the back line of UCO and was all alone with the keeper.  Kaitlyn Asher, the UCO keeper, met McClean in the box with a risky, aggressive play at 97:34 keeping the game tied and eventually sending it into the second overtime.

The second OT saw no shots on goal for either side.  The physical play of the match showed in the final period as neither time could get through to the keepers.

The Jets will wrap up their 2021 campaign on Sunday, as Northeastern State pays Wilkins Field a visit.  The match will take place on Halloween and it is Senior Day.  Coach Jay Holmes and all of Newman University will be proud to recognize the six seniors for all their efforts in their time at Newman.  Senior Day festivities are set to begin at 12:55 with kickoff for the match set to follow.
