"Strong" performance helps the Jets down Sterling

WICHITA, Kan. - Newman hosted Sterling College Tuesday night.  The Jets picked up their second consecutive win on the young season with an 87-52 pummeling of the Warriors.

Newman shot 41.9% from the field to advance to 2-2.  Three double figure stories helped the Jets get their largest lead of 27 with 1:29 remaining in the second half and the 25-point win.  The Jets outscored the Warriors 46-26 in the second half.

The Jets assisted on 14 of their 26 made field goals while shoot 81.5% from the charity stripe, converting on 22 of 27 attempts.  36 points in the paints propelled Newman to victory.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Stevie Strong who's solid first half gave the Jets confidence heading into the final 20 minutes.  Strong had 20 points, including 14 first half points.  The Freshman from Wichita also had 3 rebounds and 3 assists on the night.

Ian Lee scored 11 gritty points, making his way to the free throw line 3 times, sinking all five of his attempts.  Jorge Oliva scored 10 in 16 minutes off the bench for Newman.  Another key performance came from AJ Morris who had 8 points 3 rebounds 3 assists and 3 steals.  The Graduate Student has provided leadership that has helped the Jets develop their identity with a squad that has 8 new faces and 10 returning ones, crafted by Coach R.J. Allen.  Coach Allen, always happy with a win, said, "Our growth from the first tip to today is a testament to the work our men are putting in daily to reach their goals individually and most importantly as a group."

Newman continues non-conference play with a matchup against Manhattan Christian Saturday, November 27 at 3 PM.
