Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run denies the Jets' comeback push

WICHITA, Kan. - The Jets were unable to bring it all the way back against a high powered Washburn club Saturday afternoon.  Newman fell 72-61 with game within one with just under 12 minutes remaining.

A 10-0 run just after that point helped the Ichabods pick up their 5th win to put them at .500 overall at 5-5 (2-2 MIAA).  The Jets fall to 3-6 (0-4 MIAA).  After staring off with 3 home wins to begin the year, the Jets have lost two straight home games now.

Newman was boosted by strong play from Ian Lee and Stevie Strong.  In Strong's first career start, the Freshman went off for 21 points, one shy of his career high.  He also added 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in 39 minutes.  Ian Lee's 16 points are a new season high for the Point Guard.  Lee also added 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

Points in the paint were at a 42-24 advantage for Washburn, a key separating factor in the game.  Newman will look to close this gap in their next games.

Up next for Newman is a trip to Kearney, Nebraska followed by a matchup with another Kansas foe in Fort Hays State.  The contest with UNK is set for 7:30 PM on Friday night.  For more information, news and updates follow the Jets on social media or visit newmanjets.com.
