Kearney, Neb. - Newman traveled to Kearney to take on the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Jets and Loper were seeking their first conference win of their seasons. UNK prevailed 79-64 with a strong finish.
Newman's record falls to 3-7 (0-5 MIAA). The Lopers advance to 5-5 (1-3 MIAA) with their handed win.
The first half showed some holes defensively for Newman. 40 points from 50% shooting from the field helped the Lopers build an 11 point lead going into the break.
The Jets showed life in the second half. Newman brought the game within 5 points with a 12-2 run with 6:50 remaining. That was about all Newman could muster as the Lopers burst with an 8-0 run themselves to make the game 67-54 before the final media timeout.
Newman fell 79-64 Friday night to UNK. Stevie Strong had 24 points makring a new career high, while Ian Lee had 15 points and led the team with 6 rebounds in the loss.
Up next, Newman will travel to Hays to face the Fort Hays State Tigers. It will be teams' first matchup of the season and the Sunday matchup will wrap up the 2021 part of the Jets' 2021-22 season.
