HAYS, Kan. - Newman faced off against Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon. The team's travel to Hays was delayed Saturday because of a bus fire on their Overland Charters Bus. No one was injured in the incident. Read more here. As for the game, Fort Hays State took the contest 82-57.
Newman now sits at 3-8 (0-6 MIAA) and are on a 6 game slide. The Tigers are 9-1 (4-1 MIAA) after their Friday night loss to UNK and Sunday afternoon win against the Jets.
Ian Lee was hot early with 10 points in the first 6 minutes of the game on 4-4 shooting including 2-2 from 3. Lee finished with 16 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
A 13-3 run helped the Tigers take a 44-31 lead at the break. Neither team scored over the final 1:36 of the half. FHSU shot 54.8% from the field while Newman mustered 42.3% from the field.
The Tigers expanded their lead in the second half behind 4 double-figure scorers. Newman was led by Stevie Strong who scored 21 points for the second time this season and just one point behind his career best.
