Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Jets Fall to Hillcats 1-0 in GAC Opener

WICHITA, Kan. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Newman Men's soccer team hosted Rogers State in their first GAC Conference match at Stryker Sports Complex. Before the contest both teams would kneel and have a moment of silence for a former Rogers State player who died in the line of duty as a Dallas police officer. This match was a good back and forth contest, with the lone goal for RSU coming at the 19th minute mark in the first half. That goal would be all Rogers State would need to beat the Jets as they would hold on 1-0.

Key Sequence

The Jets had a few really good opportunities to net balls, but would come up short in the contest. Rogers State would start the scoring in the 19th minute as Jesus Ramirez would find the back of the net on a pass from Jaxon Pitt for the game's only goal as Rogers State held Newman scoreless.

How It Happened

The Jets would have plenty of chances in this match outshooting the Hillcats 14-11 and 3-2 on shots on goal. The game would be tied until the 19th minute when Jaxon Pitt would send a ball into the box where Jesus Ramirez would put it out of the reach of Jean Claude Consol to give the Hillcats the early 1-0 lead. That goal in the 19th minute would be the only goal the Hillcats needed as they would shutout the Jets 1-0.

What's Next

The Jets will look to regroup as they travel to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hays State on Saturday, February, 27th with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 PM.
