WICHITA, KS - Newman welcomed the UCO Bronchos to Wilkins Field for the second game of double header following Men's Soccer's 1-0 loss to MSU Denver. The Jets played 110 minutes to end the match tied 2-2.
Jay Holmes' team is now 0-3-1 to start the season. The results are not necessarily ideal, but Holmes is very proud of the fight in his team. The result of a tie, however, after how the game played out just shows what kind of culture Holmes has implemented in his second year.
In the 18th miunute UCO jumped out to an early lead, but that only motivated the JEts to push offensively. Newman created 4 offensive chances in the first half for themselves. At 38:05,
Ashley Talley buried the equalizing goal to make it a 1-1 match. Ellie Johnson assisted on Talley's first goal on the season that was created on a misplay by UCO's goalkeeper.
Makael Whipple took advantage of an opportunity just 30 seconds later and scored her first goal on the season giving the Jets the lead going into halftime.
The Jets offense was met by stellar play in the back row by the Bronchos. UCO's defense held the Jets to 0 shots on goal in the final 65 minutes. UCO netted a game tying goal that ended up being then last goal on the sheet for either team.
The Jets were ambushed with shot after shot seeing a total of 25 shot on the day. Despite the attack,
Jackie Lari turned away 11 of the Bronchos' 13 attempts on the goal. The Jets waved off the onslaught from the Bronchos for the final 49 minutes of the match to earn a 2-2 tie.
Along with
Jackie Lari in net,
Makenzie Shay played all 110 minutes followed by
Jordan Ashworth with 105 and
