Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jets comeback comes up short against the Hillcats

Claremore, OK - Newman traveled to Claremore, Oklahoma on Sunday to face Rogers State.  After trailing 2-0 at the half, the Jets flipped a switch, but ultimately fell just short of completing their comeback.

1st Half:
Rogers State came out aggressive in the first half against Newman.  The Hillcats got 4 shots on net in half number one.  Goalkeeper Jackie Lari was able to keep two of the four attempts out of the net in half number one.  She finished the match with 3 saves.  Rogers State scored two goals, both by Kori Watters.  The first came at 9:24 and the second at 36:14.  Despite RSU's two goals, the shots were even through 45 minutes.

2nd Half:
In the second half, it felt as if the Jets were shot out of a cannon.  Newman got 4 of 6 shots to test the Hillcat goalkeeper.  Yazmin Puentes received a caution at 59:32, the only yellow card assessed in the match.  At the 71:57 mark, it was Makenzie Shay burying her first collegiate goal off a free kick at the top of the goal box.  The Jets were on the attack in the latter 45 seeing as Lari was only tested once.

The final result was a 2-1 loss for the Jets, but coach Jay Holmes was proud of the collective group effort and the fact that the Jets got 11 shots off is something to build off of going into next week.

Speaking of next week, the Jets are back in action Friday, October 1 at Nebraska-Kearney with a 6 PM kickoff.  After their trip to Kearney, the Jets will face-off against the Tigers at Fort Hays State on Sunday.
