WICHITA, Kan. - #24 ranked Newman hosted Fort Hays State Thursday night in an MIAA dual. The result was rather inconspicuous as the Jets dropped the dual 24-21 despite winning every match wrestled inside of Fugate Gymnasium.
Open weights at 133, 141, 184 and 285 gave Fort Hays State their 24 points. The other 6 matches were a completely different story. Newman picked up 5 decisions and a pin from
JD Johnson.
Newman was unable to overcome their open weights even with stellar performances from
D'Andre Brown,
Jace Fisher,
Garrett Lange,
Kameron Frame,
JD Johnson and
Ivan Balavage.
JD Johnson's pin of FHSU's Aidan Johnson at 4:43 evened the dual score at 18.
Ivan Balavage's 4-2 decision over #12 Tereus Henry gave the Jets a 21-18 lead before the final open weight of 285 ultimately gave FHSU the win 24-21.
The Jets are back in action Monday night as it is Senior night inside of Fugate Gymnasium.
