10/1/2022 12:27:00 AM

FAYETTEVILLE, Ar – The Newman Men's and Women's Cross Country teams headed down to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the Chile Pepper Race. This event consisted of many different divisions as the Jets faced off against MIAA opponents and teams within their region.

They were led by freshman Britton Kelly who finished with a time of 18:54 which was her third consecutive finish under 19 minutes. Kelly placed 13th, just a minute and a half behind 1st place. This was Kelly's 3rd race in a row leading the Jets.

Caroline Williams had a personal best of 27:37, helping the Jets step up with 1 less runner than usual as Lucy Brown was unable to compete.

Patricia Limo placed tied for 44th for the Jets with a time of 19:31.

The Women's team finished 11th out of 48 total teams, with 34 teams qualifying for a finish in the Chile Pepper Race. They beat conference opponent Central Oklahoma and regional foes NWSU and SWOSU on a hot and dusty day in Arkansas

The Men's team had a successful day as well, placing 6th out of 43 total teams with 38 teams qualifying for a finish.

Kevin Chemalmal led the Jets with a time of 26:18, placing him in 24th place. Asher Brown followed Chemalmal with a time of 26:31, putting him 8 spots behind his teammate for 32nd place.
Austin Hock and Austin Fullerton also placed well for the Jets today.

Paul Sevart had a personal best time of 27:55 which helped Newman finish well and finish higher than many division 1 schools and regional rivals. This was a better event for the Men's team after a performance last week that Head Coach Josh Schepis wanted to see improvement on.

" We have to keep working towards conference and use this week to gain strength and endurance to get us through these next two regular season meets before postseason starts." Schepis said after a good Friday afternoon result for his program.

The Jets next race is in 2 weeks as they will head to Emporia, Kansas on October 14th.
