Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jets fall to Emporia State on the road

EMPORIA, Kan. - The Jets Women's soccer team began their weekend with a trip up Kansas to take on the Emporia State Hornets. Newman came into the game looking to improve their in conference record as the 2022 season begins to wrap up. After ESU was able to capitalize on 2 separate restarts and push downfield, the game would end in a 4-0 loss for the Jets.

First Half

The game opened up with a quick push downfield by ESU that was defended well, resulting in a Newman goal kick. A takeaway by Maylani Birckbichler in the 5th minute led to a run by the Jets where she was able to get an arching shot off that went just left of the goal.

Newman got another chance in 17 minutes later with a cross to Morgan Houston that also missed left, but after a clock stop caused by an injury, ESU was able to get downfield and score the opening goal 24 minutes in. They would go on to add to their lead in the 34th and 39th minute, with Newman getting some more good runs in but being unable to score before halftime.

Second Half

The second half would again see Emporia State press the Jets as the half started with them making a run and getting a quick shot off. After another injury in the 48th minute, ESU was again able to score shortly after the clock was restarted, making it a 4 goal lead.

There was a bit more back and forth play after the kickoff, with the Jets being able to get the ball downfield a bit easier. Their best opportunity came in the 72nd minute with a run that was unfortunately stopped by an offside call. After some solid defending and a few late chances, the Jets would end the game scoreless and go down 4-0.

Next Up

The Jets will be taking a short trip to another Kansas school this Sunday, October 16th when they take on Washburn at 1 PM.
