EMPORIA, Kans – The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled closer to home to Emporia to race in the Hornet Harrier Invitational. This week's race saw 2 personal best times on the men's sides and 5 Men's runners finish in the top 15.
Kevin Chemalmal had the best time on the Men's side for Newman, finishing in 8
th place with a time of 26:16 with
Austin Fullerton (26:42) and
Asher Brown (27:00) following in 11
th and 13
th place.
Austin Hock ran a personal best (27:03) and finished in 14
th place while
Ezekiel Kemboi ran a personal best time of 27:03 which put him in 15
th place as the Jets placed 5 runners in the top 15.
The Men's team finished 2
nd out of 6 teams, finishing in front of Drury, Crowder, and Benedictine.
On the Women's side, 2 racers finished in the top 10 as
Patricia Limo led the Jets on the day with a time of 19:26, finishing in 5
th place for her first top 5 finish of the season. Freshman
Britton Kelly had a top 10 finish with a time of 19:52, finishing under 20 minutes for the 4
th consecutive race this season. The Jets finished in 3
rd on the day.
Head Coach
Josh Schepis said of his team, "We had 5 girls finish ahead of their (Emporia State) 4
th runner, but we will have to move those up in the ranks if we want to beat them at conference."
NU has 1 final tune up before the MIAA Championships as they will be competing in the Mid States Classic next Saturday in Winfield, Kansas.
"We should have some fast times next week on a faster course. We had to train through this meet, we had a tough workout on Wednesday to get ready for it."
