WICHITA - #8 Nebraska Kearney came in to Fugate Gymnasium off a 4 game winning streak after defeating Central Oklahoma last night in 3 sets, facing a Newman team coming off a 4 set slugfest against Fort Hays the night before. #8 UNK defeated the Jets in 3 sets.
The Jets and #8 Lopers wouldn't give an inch in the first set, with the score staying close until UNK went on a 4-0 run to distance themselves at 22-17. Newman countered with a 3-0 run but the Lopers scored 3 of the next 5 points off kills by Bailee Sterling and Emerson Cyza to take the first set 25-22.
Newman jumped out to an early 7-4 lead before an 11-2 UNK run gave the Lopers back the lead before finishing on an 8-1 run to end the set.
Set 3 saw #8 UNK show why they're that high in the national rankings as they took set 3 25-19 with a 5-1 run to end the set. Back to back kills by Emerson Cyza and a Newman attack error gave the Lopers the sweep on the day.

Ozioma Ajekwu led the Jets with 8 kills.

Newman heads back on the road for for a slate of games against Pitt State, Emporia State, and #10 Washburn. The matchup vs Pitt State is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18th at 6 PM.
