WINFIELD, Kan. - Cross County was back in action Saturday morning as they competed in the Mid-States Classic hosted by Southwestern College.

The Men's and Women's teams were fresh off competing at Emporia State just a week ago and looked to finish at the top of the rankings in Winfield, Kansas before going into the MIAA Championships in 2 weeks.

In the Women's 5K, Patricia Limo stepped up for the Jets and finished in 4th overall (18:38) out of 152 runners, only 4 seconds behind the 1st place finisher. Limo beat her final time from last week of 19:26.

Britton Kelly finished in 2nd on the team, placing 29th with a time of 20:09.

It was a day of personal bests for 3 Newman runners as Isabella Torres (22:02), Sam Holmes (23:57), and Ariel Johnson (24:42) had their best finish as members of the Newman Women's Cross Country team.

Lucy Brown improved from her result last week with a 35th place finish and a time of 20:35.

The Women's team finished 6th out of 16 teams and in front of Friends University and host Southwestern (Kan.)

On the Men's side just like last week, Kevin Chemalmal took the top spot for Newman, placing 14th with a time of (26:22). Chemalmal's finish was only 6 seconds more than his result of 26:16 from last week's race in the Hornet Harrier Invitational.

Just like last week as it pertains to placement, Austin Fullerton (24th, 26:57), Asher Brown (27th, 27:02) and Austin Hock (38th, 27:36) followed Chemalamal.

The Men's team took 4th place out of 17 teams, finishing only 2 points behind Kansas Wesleyan.

"We learned a valuable lesson about finishing races. We got edged by 2 points when we should have had that locked up for third. We will work on a little extra endurance this week and finish the races strong. Conference will be many of our runners favorite race course." Head Coach Josh Schepis said on his team's results.

The Jets are back in 2 weeks as the MIAA Championships begin November 5th in Joplin, Missouri.
