WICHITA - Fugate Gymnasium hosted its final home volleyball match on Tuesday night as No. 21 ranked Central Oklahoma visited Wichita. The Bronchos have won 3 out of their last 4 coming into the matchup and looked to win the season series as they defeated Newman earlier in the year in straight sets in a match that UCO needed 31 points in the third set to come away with a victory.
Â
Newman fell in 3 tonight as UCO won the sets 18-25, 20-25, and 26-24. The Bronchos outhit the Jets .219 to .136 on the night.
Â
Freshman
Natalie Meyer led Newman with 9 kills while
Ozioma Ajekwu finished the night with 6 blocks with
Mckinzie Weaver and
Natalie Meyer ended the match with 4 kills each.
Â
It seemed as if Newman was going to take the third set from UCO, as The Broncos couldn't find an answer for the Newman attack as the Jets got out to a 5-1 lead, getting it to as high as 19-13 before a UCO timeout stopped the momentum as a ball handling error and an attack error by Newman helped give Central Oklahoma a 4-0 run to get right back into the set.
Â
The Jets had a chance to close out the set being up 24-23 but UCO's Sydney Huck scored 2 out of the next 3 points and Lacy Maegan topped it off with a kill of her own to earn the sweep.
Â
Both matches this season needed a little extra in the 3rd set.
Â
The Jets will close out their 2022 season this Friday when they visit nationally ranked Northwest Missouri State for a matchup set for 6 pm.
