Women's bowling wraps up fall season with wins over nationally ranked teams in Lady Jack Classic

KENOSHA, WI-   The Women's Bowling team traveled to the Lady Jack Classic held in Kenosha, Wisconsin last weekend. This would be the last tournament for the 2022 year before they come back in early January to continue their season.

Newman would get off to a great start on day one going 4-1 and defeating #4 ranked Stephan F. Austin, #18 Wisconsin Whitewater and #20 Lewis University. The Jets' only loss came to #3 Nebraska in the first match of the tournament.

Day 2 would start with Newman taking on #2 Vanderbilt and while NU would shoot their highest game of the early season, #2 Vanderbilt would bowl even higher as they defeated the Jets 1070-1182. The Jets would finish day 2 and go 3-2 and move to 7-3 on the weekend headed into Sunday.

The final day of the Lady Jack Classic would bring a match against preseason #1 Mckendree University and the Jets would come out slow shooting 170 and would be down 24 pins headed into game 2. The Jets would then bowl games of 210, 215, 188, and 222 to defeat the #2 Bearcats 1005-960. Match 2 of the day would pair Newman against  #6 Arkansas St. and the Jets would be defeated 819-1024.

Newman would end up 2-2 on Sunday and would finish their final tournament of the fall season in 8th place with a 9-5 record.

The Jets finish up the fall season 24-14 and will be on a break until January 7-10th where they will bowl in the Mount Classic in Las Vegas, NV to start the spring season.

"It has been a solid start to our year. The Jets have competed against some really good teams and showed some really good signs of growth." said Coach Billy Murphy on his team's impressive showing in their first year as NCAA members.
