DYER, In – The Jets traveled to Indiana over the weekend to compete in the Valpo Classic. Right away they would get off to a consistent start on Friday going 4-0 in match play and sitting in 6th place overall in total pins.

Saturday action heated up and the Jets would have another great performance going 5-0 and would have the high total pinfall of the 17 teams in the field averaging 192.9 for the day. Newman would climb to 3rd place over the first 2 days.

NU would go into the bracket play as the #3 seed and would draw preseason nationally ranked No. 20 Lewis University in the first of 3 rounds of best of 7 matches to be held on Sunday.
The Jets would go the distance in this match but fall in the 7th and deciding game with their first loss of the event after starting 9-0, 3-4. Newman had a quick turnaround and would then play host Valparaiso University, with this time getting off to a 2-0 lead but would lose game 3.

The match would quickly turn into a route with the jets winning game 4 and 5 to finish off Valpo for the second time in the tournament 4-1. It was then revenge time as Newman would again draw Lewis university for the final match that would decide 3rd and 4th place. The Jets would start off this match winning the first 3 games to go up 3-0 with Lewis fighting back winning the next 2 games to make the match 3-2. Newman, still in control, finished off the match winning game 6 and the match 4-2.

NU would finish in 3rd place and finish with a 11-1 record for the event and move to 15-9 overall for the season. The Jets were led by Senior Addyson Schiffelbein who averaged 211 for the event and would make the all-tournament team and win the individual standings. Sophomore Dakota Lennen would average 199 and finish just outside the top 5 in 7th place.

Newman rebounds from a slow start in the Mid-States Championship and gains momentum going into the Lady Jack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin on November 11th-13th.
