WICHITA – With the holiday season approaching, Men's basketball looked to have a pre-Thanksgiving celebration with Tabor College visiting Fugate Gymnasium for a matchup set for 7:30 PM.
Newman looked to avenge Saturday's loss against Dallas Baptist with a dominating performance tonight. They'd get that dominating performance in
Latik Murphy who led the Jets tonight with 21 points with 16 coming in the first half. Murphy shot 50% on the night.
Stevie Strong continued his impressive performance as he put up 16 points off 5-9 shooting and brought his season average PPG to 21.8. Strong and Murphy were the lone Jets in double figures.
Newman set the tone early with a 15-0 run early in the first half with a 5-2 Blue Jays lead turned into a 17-5 Jets lead that they would hold for the rest of the game.
Coming out of the half Newman got out to another big run that distanced themselves further away from the Blue Jays who shot just 36% in the first half. Their scoring troubles continued into the 2nd half as they were just 6-26 shooting.The Jets got help on the defensive side with
Chuka Mekkam earning 4 steals.
Newman finished with 20 points off turnovers for the game.and outshot the Blue Jays 45.5% to 29.2%.
Newman moves to 3-2 on the season with one final non-conference game left before the MIAA season on December 1st. The Jets will take on York University (NE) this Saturday at 3 PM in Fugate Gymnasium.
