Jets finish road swing with series victory in Ada

ADA, Okla. – Newman travelled to Ada, Oklahoma for a three game set with the East Central Tigers on Saturday and Sunday.  The Jets suffered a setback in Game 1, falling 11-6.  Newman bounced back in the second game Saturday and rolled to a 7-0 victory and followed that performance up Sunday with a series victory clinching 21-8 win.

Game 1

The series started with East Central capitalizing off of Newman mistakes scoring 11 runs, 8 of which being earned as the defense committed two errors behind their pitching.

The Tigers hung three crooked numbers, stretching their lead to 11-3 after 7 complete.  The Jets added three more in the top of the ninth aided by a 2-run RBI single by Nick Caravello who pinch hit for the Jets.

Andrew Prieve took the loss, falling to 0-2 in two starts this season.  Prieve went 3.1 innings giving up 7 hits, 7 runs, 4 earned with 4 strikeouts.  Crae Pfannenstiel relieved the starting pitcher and threw 1.2 shutout innings in relief to keep the Tigers within striking distance.  The Tigers scratched across a run in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to keep the Jets away as the Tigers picked up win number one on their young season by a final score of 11-6.

Game 2

The second game on Saturday was slated for 7 innings, but was called for darkness after 6 complete innings.  The Jets were victorious 7-0 behind another strong start for Asher Finke who threw all 6 innings.

The Jet offense scored at least one run in each of the final four innings of the game to work their way to a 7-0 victory.  Hayden VanDePol and Jake Angelico each roped extra base hits that played integral parts in creating a cushion between the Jets and Tigers.  Angelico hit a solo homerun to kick off the scoring in game 2 in the top of the third.  In the fourth, Hayden VanDePol tripled and was hit in on an RBI ground out by Anthony Ferrante.  VanDePol later singled in the 5th scoring both Jenner Steele and Carson Hawks.

Asher Finke was again dominant, backing up his opening day win with another victory, hurling all 6 innings, needing just 78 pitches to strikeout 9 Tigers and only allowing 4 base runners.

Game 3

The Jets scored their most runs of the season in the third game played Sunday afternoon.  Newman took the third game 21-8, capturing yet another series victory.

The offense was led by Jenner Steele and Zack Stewart who drove in 4 runs each.  Steele was a one man wrecking crew accounting for 4 hits, a home run, the four RBI's and three runs.

Nate Denniston picked up the win for the Jets with 5 innings of 6 run ball.  Denniston struck out a season high 10 East Central Tigers.  Ian Lecki pitched two scoreless innings with 4 punch outs. The Newman staff finished game three with 15 strikeouts.
