WICHITA, Kan. – Newman hosted Concordia-St. Paul for their home opener Sunday. Originally scheduled for a three day four game set starting on Friday, the games were rescheduled for double headers on Sunday and Monday due to a snow covered field. Newman struggled to begin the series as CSP took Game 1 20-1, but the Jets shook off their snow shoveling soreness in Game 2 with a 4-2 win.
Game 1
The Bears used big innings to put away the Jets early in game 1.
Andrew Prieve took the loss on the mound for the Jets after lasting just 1.1 innings.
Tyler Push drove in Newman's only run of the contest with an RBI double in the bottom of the second.
Game 2
Game 2 was completely flipped script. Newman used 6 strong innings from
Nate Denniston on the bump to navigate their way to a 4-2 victory.
At the plate, Newman scored a run in each of the first three innings of the game.
Lincoln Choate's solo homerun was one of just three hits mustered by the Jets.
Tyler Push's RBI double in the third inning wound up being all the Jets would need as they went up 3-0.
Denniston's 6 innings were massive for Newman. The lefty allowed just 5 hits and allowed one unearned run. The Pueblo West, Colorado native fanned 6 Bears en route to his third win on the campaign.
Connor Langrell earned his first save out of the bullpen. #34 kept the Bears from scoring multiple runs in the final frame.
