CLAREMORE, Okla. – Newman travelled to face the Rogers State Hillcats as the middle part of their three game road swing. No more Oklahoma basketball remains in front of the Jets after their 61-53 loss to Rogers State.
Newman falls to 4-20 (1-18 MIAA) with the loss. Rogers State is now 14-11 (8-11 MIAA).
The Jets jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a
Branden Bunn lay up before RSU responded with a three pointer and did not look back. The Hillcats stretched their lead to 16 points and never extended their lead beyond that point.
Ian Lee's transition three cut the Hillcat lead to just 56-50 with 3:26 remaining, but that was the closest the Jets came to victory.
Despite the Jets winning the second half by one point, they couldn't bring the game all the way back. The nine point halftime deficit was just a bit too much for
R.J. Allen's squad. Newman ultimately fell 61-53.
Both clubs were led by three double figure scorers.
Branden Bunn led all scorers with 14.
Ian Lee and
Israel Barnes each added 12 points and 11 points respectively.
The road swing continues for Newman as they head over to Jefferson City to take on Lincoln in the first of a back to back to be played at Lincoln followed by the Homecoming Game Thursday in Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets road schedule wraps up against the Blue Tigers on Monday at 5:30 PM.
