Jefferson City, Mo. – Newman finished its longest road trip of the season with a trip to face the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Monday night. The two teams were both ever hungry for an MIAA win, but it was LU who found a way to close out the Jets in Missouri. Lincoln won 67-62.
Newman falls to 4-21 (1-19 MIAA) with their 11
th consecutive loss. Meanwhile, Lincoln snaps a 6 game skid to advance to 3-22 (2-18 MIAA).
The Blue Tigers dominated the transition game offensively with 24 points, 15 more than Newman collected on the night.
The Jets trailed by 12 points with 1:51 remaining in the first half before rattling off a 10-0 run capped off by a
Branden Bunn layup with 18:34 remaining in the second half.
Newman held a 6 point advantage with 7:46 to go before a 14-0 run over 3:20 gave LU the control of the game with 12 of the 14 coming off of Ni'Sean Rigmaiden 3-pointers. Rigmaiden finished tied for a team high of 13 points.
The Jets fell by a final score of 67-62.
Newman was led by
Israel Barnes who scored 26 points. Barnes has scored 20+ points in 7 of his last nine games.
Branden Bunn scored 15 points while
Ian Lee dropped 12 on the night. Barnes, Bunn, Lee and
DeAndre Johnson each grabbed 6 rebounds to tie for the team lead. Lee also led with 3 assists.
Newman returns home for two final contests. Next up is another date with these same Lincoln Blue Tigers for the Homecoming Game Thursday in Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets road schedule wraps up against the Blue Tigers on Monday at 5:30 PM.
