WICHITA, Kan. – The Men's Basketball game Thursday night was the literal definition of homecoming. The Jets played their first home game in 10 days with three road games in between. Newman squared off against Lincoln for the second time this week. Lincoln took the first matchup 67-62 in Jefferson City. For the Homecoming game it was the Jets emerging victorious with a dominant 89-76 win.
Newman will move on to 5-21 (2-19 MIAA) after avenging Monday night's loss. Lincoln rides home with a 3-23 (2-19 MIAA) mark.
Lincoln brought their offense in the second half, but it was not enough to surmount the 34 point lead Newman had built with 18:13 remaining in the game when
Israel Barnes knocked down an elbow jumper.
The Jets shot 9-17 from deep and 57.9% from the field. NU had a distinct 25-6 advantage in points off of turnovers. Newman also had 6 double figure scorers.
Newman double figure scorers:
DeAndre Johnson rattled off 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Ian Lee scored 12 points and dropped 5 assists.
Stevie Strong posted 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Branden Bunn dropped 13 points and assisted on 6 baskets to lead the Jets.
Israel Barnes 15 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
David Javorsky scored 19 points to lead all scorers in the game.
Newman plays just once more on Saturday. That day will be Senior Day. The Basketball Senior Day will be held after the Women's game before the Men's game warmup.
