Lopers run wild in Fugate

WICHITA, Kan. - Newman hosted Nebraska Kearney Saturday afternoon inside of Fugate Gymnasium.  The Lopers and Jets played an up tempo game that led to the Jets yielding 89 points as UNK defeated the home team, Newman, 89-75.

Newman falls to 4-15 (1-13 MIAA) with the loss, while the Lopers pick up a valuable conference win on the road to advance to 9-13 (5-11 MIAA).

Both teams played a tremendous offense.  The teams together tallied 13 turnovers over the entire 40 minutes.  It was the crisp offensive attack of UNK, led by David Simental that led to the Jets demise.

UNK shot 54.2% from the field and nailed 11 threes at a 42.3% clip.  The Jets shot 48.2%, a commendable shooting percentage on any night other than tonight, while only netting 6 trifectas of their 21 long range attempts.

Fast facts:

- All 5 Loper starters scored in double figures, led by Simental who had 33 points
- Israel Barnes tallied 25 points to lead Newman, followed by Ian Lee who had 18 in total and 16 in second half.
- Newman had more bench points, points in the paint, points off turnovers and fastbreak points than UNK.
- The Lopers' 89 points is the most allowed by R.J. Allen's team this season.

Newman will travel to Warrensburg for some Wednesday night hoops as they make up a previously cancelled contest at UCM before returning home to take on UCO on Saturday, February 12th at 3:30 PM.
