Game Recap: Baseball |

Stay-cation series starts off right for Baseball

WICHITA, Kan. – Newman played their fifth straight game at McCarthy Field, but for the first time they played as the away team.  The Jets and Griffons are carrying out their three game set in Wichita due to wintery weather that made Missouri Western's surface unplayable.  Newman felt right at home as the team posted 11 runs to hand Missouri Western their fifth consecutive loss.

Final Newman 11 Missouri Western 4.

The Jets hold a 13-7 (3-4 MIAA) mark.  MWSU no sits at 3-13 (1-6 MIAA).

Garrett VanDeventer toed the rubber Saturday afternoon in Wichita and he dazzled.  #15 limited his damage all afternoon long.  The Griffons took 12 hits from VanDeventer, but could only score 3 runs over 8 innings.

Despite falling behind 2-0 after one inning, the Jets were able to win the game thanks to 7 unanswered runs from the top of the fifth until the top of the ninth.  The offense was sparked by Tyler Push at the top of the lineup and Jake Angelico in the nine hole.  Push was 4-6 with two doubles and a solo homerun.  At the bottom of the order, Angelico went 3-5 with 6 RBI and three runs scored.  The Texas native sent two big flies beyond the outfield wall.

Up next the Jets and Griffons will play game two at McCarthy Field with the Jets as the visiting team.  First pitch is 2 PM.
