Jets fall late in back-and-forth battle

WICHITA, Kan. – Newman and Missouri Western State played game two of their 3 game set in Wichita on Sunday.  The home team Griffons held the Jets off in a back and forth contest.

Final Newman 10 Missouri Western 11

The Jets hold a 13-8 (3-5 MIAA) mark following the loss.  MWSU picks up an important win and is now 4-13 (2-6 MIAA).

This game featured 7 lead changes and was tied four other times.

The Jets used a couple big flies to push themselves into the lead.  None was bigger than Carson Hawks' 3 run bomb that pushed the Jets into a 10-9 lead in the top of the 7th.

The lead was short lived as the Griffons responded in the home half of the seventh to tie the game.

Both offenses were alive and well Sunday afternoon.  The Jets scored 10 runs off of 11 hits and 6 Griffon errors.  The Griffons, however, got the last say with their 14th hit of the day and 11th run scored when Alex Crouch launched his first hit of the day over the wall in right center.

Ian Lecki was tagged with his second loss of the season.

The three and four hole hitters for Newman were on point.  Jenner Steele and Carson Hawks went a combined 5 for 10 with 4 runs scored, 6 RBI's, a double and 2 big flies.

Up next the Jets and Griffons will play the rubber match of this three game set at McCarthy Field with the Jets as the visiting team.  First pitch is 1 PM.
