HAYS, Kan. – Newman travelled up to Hays for a continuation of their midweek series on Tuesday night.  The Jets fell to the Tigers on March 15th in Wichita by a score of 15-10.  This Tuesday was a completely different story.  The Jet offense tallied 21 hits and 18 runs on their way to the rout of FHSU.

Final Newman 18 Fort Hays State 6

The Newman offense was on point all afternoon getting quality at bat after quality at bat on their way to 18 runs and 21 hits.

Fort Hays State took an early 1-0 lead on a first inning fielder's choice.  From then on it was Newman's night.  Anthony Ferrante and Lincoln Choate hit back-to-back jacks in the top of the second to take the lead for the rest of the evening.

In the top of the fourth, Jenner Steele singled in two more runs for Newman.  Steele was called out trying to advance to second base on the throw in.

Zack Hargrove hit a 2-run homer in the 6th inning.  The homerun was Hargrove's fifth of the season.

Two run innings was the trend for the offense as the team added two runs with singles from Carson Hawks and Zack Hargrove.

In the eighth, infield miscues aided the Jets as Zack Stewart singled home Tyler Push.  Stewart advanced to second on a misplay by the first baseman.  That extra base allowed Stewart to score before Hayden VanDePol was tagged out trying to reach second on the error.

The ninth inning opened the flood gates as the Jets began the inning leading just 10-1 and finished up 18-1.  The Jets loaded the bases 3 time and sent 14 batters to the plate.  The eight runs were scored on just four hits.

Tyler Push finished the day 4-5 with 2 runs, a double and an RBI.  Anthony Ferrante and Zack Hargrove led the Jets with 3 RBI a piece.

The Tigers got back a few runs in the bottom of the ninth as they put up 5 runs, but thanks to the flood of scoring by the Jets, the lead was never threatened.

On the mound, Andrew Prieve earned the first victory of his career.  Prieve threw 5.1 innings, his longest outing to date.  The righty allowed just 4 hits and a run while punching out 2.

Up next, Newman heads to Maryville for a three game set with the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri.  The first pitch of the series is set for 3 PM on Friday.  For more information, stay tuned to newmanjets.com.
