MARYVILLE, Mo. – Newman and Northwest Missouri State began their series Friday night. The two teams struggled offensively with as just one run decided the game. It was the Bearcats on top in the first game of this series, 1-0.

There was just one hit through five and a half innings. The Bearcats were hitless through five and broke through in the sixth inning with four hits. The hits were good enough to scratch one run across which was enough to eventually win the game.
The Jets had just two hits all night and could not string together good at bats.
Garrett VanDeventer went to work in his start for Newman. The lefty was efficient and effective all night long as he kept the Bearcat hitters off balance. VanDeventer went the distance for the visitors as he tossed 8 innings, yet was on the wrong side of the 1-0 decision. VanDeventer now sits at 4-3 after throwing 8 1 run, 7 hit, 4 strikeout innings.
