WICHITA, Kan. – Newman hosted Washburn for their first home MIAA contest on the season. The Jets and Ichabods played in gusty conditions with winds of 20-30 miles per hour and gusts of up to 40. WU toppled the Jets 13-6 with an onslaught of offense and some timely defense.

The Jets sit at 11-5 (2-2 MIAA) while Washburn picks up their fourth MIAA win, and advance to 13-4 (4-0 MIAA).
The Jets turned to
Andrew Prieve to start game one. Prieve was tagged with the loss to fall to 0-4 and went 3 innings giving up 5 earned and striking out one.
On the day, Washburn tallied 15 hits and scored in 8 of their 9 trips to the plate totaling 13 runs on the day.
The Ichabod offense got rolling when Parker Dunn smacked his first of three homeruns with a solo blast in the top of the first. Dunn finished 3-5 with 3 homeruns and 4 RBI.
Trailing 4-0 in the third,
Zack Stewart came up to the plate and instantly cut the lead in half with a 2-run shot scoring
Tyler Push.
WU added more runs to take a 6-2 lead, but in the 4
th, Newman scored another pair of runs on a
Zack Hargrove knock.
The lead was cut to just 1 when
Dalton Smith singled in
Hayden VanDePol in the 5
th. Newman was unable bring the game any closer than one run.
Stewart finished 1-3 with the homerun and two RBI. His middle infield counterpart,
Zack Hargrove, finished 2-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI as well.
Tyler Push was retired just once as he went 2-3 with a hit by pitch and 4 stolen bases.
Free passes were abundant as the two pitching staffs dished out 15 base on balls. Friday afternoon in Wichita was not the day to be 60 feet 6 inches from the plate as 6 home runs were hit on the way to 19 total runs scored.
